Entrepreneur Reveal: Shades.Handmade by Fathima — The Kind of Handmade Brand That Makes You Want Everything

Have you ever walked into a shop, spotted something, and immediately thought,

“I wish I could buy this!”?

For Fathima, that feeling often doesn't end with buying the product. It sparks an idea.

Every time she sees a great fabric, she instantly thinks about how to turn it into something pretty and useful.

That simple habit of noticing things around her has become one of the biggest sparks behind her handmade journey.

From colourful scrunchies made with imported Italian silk to coordinated pouches & bags designed to make everyday organising a little prettier, Fathima creates the kind of products she herself would want to find in a shop. And the best part? Every piece is handmade by her.

Shades.Handmade, a brand by Fathima that almost had my impulse-buying instinct taking over, because I genuinely wanted to buy everything in her collection.

About Fathima

What makes Fathima's approach interesting is that she doesn't seem to start with, “What can I make?”

Instead, it begins with: “What would I want to buy?”

That could be a particular pouch she wishes existed, a fabric she can't stop thinking about, or a colour combination that catches her attention.

When she travels and comes across fabrics she loves, she'll often bring them home with an idea of what they could become. Those fabrics eventually turn into pouches, bags, scrunchies and other everyday pieces.

She sells her creations through social media and also takes part in exhibitions, giving customers the chance to discover her work both online and in person.

What started with an appreciation for beautiful things has grown into a handmade business built around curiosity, creativity and a lot of attention to detail.

When Fabric Becomes the Starting Point

When Fabric Becomes the Starting Point

One of the things that stands out about Fathima's work is the way she uses fabric.

Rather than simply choosing whatever is available, she pays attention to the texture, colour and overall feel of the material.

Some fabrics have a soft, smooth finish that makes them perfect for accessories, while others have more structure and body, making them better suited for pouches and bags.

And then there are those fabrics that are simply too beautiful to leave behind.

For Fathima, discovering a fabric can be the beginning of an entire collection.

She might see a print or texture she loves and start imagining how it could work across different products. The result is often a group of pieces that feel connected without looking exactly the same.

Pouches That Make Organising Look Cute

Pouches That Make Organising Look Cute

Pouches are practical. But Fathima's creations show that practical doesn't have to mean boring.

One thing we particularly loved is the idea of having different types and sizes of pouches in the same fabric.

Imagine using one for makeup, another for jewellery, another for stationery and another for those random little things that somehow always end up scattered around a cupboard.

Together, they create a beautifully coordinated look.

Instead of hiding your everyday essentials away, these pouches can actually make cabinet and drawer organisation feel aesthetic.

And that's very much part of the charm of Fathima's work, she takes something ordinary and gives it a cute, intentional feel.

The Scrunchies: Colour, Texture and a Little Fun

Scrunchies

If the pouches have a practical side, the scrunchies bring out the playful side of the collection.

Fathima creates colourful scrunchies in creative combinations, including rainbow-inspired colour palettes that instantly add a little personality to an outfit.

But it's not just about colour.

She also uses imported Italian silk for most of her scrunchies, giving them a smooth, luxurious texture that feels noticeably different from everyday hair accessories.

The combination of beautiful fabric, playful colours and careful finishing makes these scrunchies feel less like something you simply use to tie your hair and more like a small fashion accessory.

Sometimes, it's the smallest details that make an everyday object feel special.

The Details Matter

The Details Matter

When you look closely at handmade accessories, the materials tell only half the story.

The other half is how they're put together.

From the feel of the fabric to the finishing of the edges, the choice of zippers and the texture of materials like leather, every little detail contributes to how the finished product looks and feels.

They're not designed simply to hold things. They're meant to be pieces you enjoy using. Whether they're sitting inside your handbag, travelling with you or neatly arranged in your cabinet.

And that balance between function and aesthetics is what makes the collection stand out.

Experience With Fathima’s Scrunchies

When I bought Fathima’s scrunchies, they honestly became one of my favourite pieces from her collection.

The first thing I noticed was, how incredibly soft they felt. The silk had a smooth, good-quality feel against the hair, and the scrunchies were comfortable to wear without feeling too tight.

But what really stood out during our review was how gently they came off. There was very little hair pulling or hair getting caught when we removed them, which made them much nicer to use than some regular hair ties.

The combination of the soft fabric, comfortable elastic and beautiful colours makes them a great everyday accessory, and also don't make you feel like you're sacrificing comfort just for the look.

Our Takeaway

Fathima's story is a good reminder that inspiration doesn't always come from a business plan.

Sometimes, it comes from seeing a beautiful piece of fabric while you're at a random place.

Sometimes, it's a colour combination you can't get out of your head.

Sometimes, it's simply thinking, “Why can't I find something like this?”

And instead of waiting for someone else to make it, you decide to make it yourself.

That's what makes Fathima's handmade journey so interesting.

She creates products based on things she would genuinely want to buy, puts a lot of effort into making them, looks for ways to minimize waste, and turns everyday essentials into pieces that are functional, colourful and fun.

From the smooth feel of Italian silk scrunchies to coordinated fabric pouches that make organising look a little prettier, there's a clear thoughtfulness behind what she makes.

And perhaps that's the best part of handmade, when the person making something genuinely cares about how it looks, feels and fits into someone's everyday life.
